Worker killed in accident at Nucor Steel

HUGER, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Berkeley County Coroner responded to Nucor Steel in Huger after an accident fatally injured a worker.

The accident happened Thursday morning in an equipment shop where repairs are made.

According to the coroner, a large piece of equipment fell on the worker, identified as 44-year-old Cisco Agbunag, of Goose Creek.

Agbunag was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The accident is being investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and OSHA.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Workers at the plant melt scrap metal to recast it into sheet metal and I-beams. The plant employs more than 900 people.
