MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Mount Pleasant police have arrested a man after his pickup reportedly struck two men working on Chuck Dawley Boulevard overnight.

According to a police report, officers responded to Chuck Dawley Boulevard near Shadow Drive and found one worker on the ground with a serious head injury. He also suffered broken ribs and facial injuries. He was taken to Medical University Hospital for treatment, police said.

Another worker said he was also hit in his shoulder and the impact spun him around. He was transported to East Cooper for evaluation.

Witnesses told police the victims were standing next to the paver when a white Chevy pickup "drove extremely close to the paver's side guard rail" and struck the two workers.

Witnesses also gave the driver's tag number and told police he was seen turning into a nearby neighborhood.

The suspect, 33-year-old Ralph Stephen Turnage, Jr., is charged with felony DUI and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
