Citadel board OKs tuition hike for Cadets

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Citadel Board of Visitors approved an increase in tuition for the Corps of Cadets. It's the lowest increase since 2001.

According to the military college, in-state students will pay 2.4 percent more and out-of-state students will pay 3.6 percent more. In-state cadets will pay $11,098 and out-of-state cadets will pay $30,706 for tuition and mandatory fees, the college said.

“This year’s increase is the smallest for in-state students since 2001,” said Col. Joseph Garcia, The Citadel’s vice president for finance. “We realize that college costs are a challenge for students and their families. I believe this budget reflects a solid balance between holding down costs while still maintaining the quality of our programs and the value of a Citadel education.”

The increase, which takes effect for the 2014-2015 academic year, accounts for rising costs for personnel, technology and infrastructure upgrades, as well as new programs related to accreditation and strategic initiatives.

“The Citadel has gained national recognition for many of its programs and we must continue to offer cadets and other students the high quality of education for which The Citadel is known,” Garcia said.

Students will receive invoices for the 2013-2014 academic year in July.
