ASHLAND, Ala -- The Clay County Sheriff's Office says a deputy and a drug task force agent were involved in a shooting Friday night near Ashland.

According to Sheriff Ray Latham, the incident occurred around 8:25 p.m. after a deputy and a Clay County Drug Task Force agent made a traffic stop on a vehicle along Bluff Springs Road, just south of Ashland. Once confronted, the driver allegedly pulled a long-barreled weapon on the agent and deputy. Moments later, the suspect was shot, suffering non-life threatening injuries.

Latham said the suspect was taken to an area hospital, where he continues to be treated for his injuries.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is probing the shooting.
