Police: Man faking injury robs James Island pharmacy

Posted: Updated:

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- It’s not unusual for a person wearing a sling to walk into a Rite Aid store, but it is unusual for a person wearing a sling to rob a Rite Aid pharmacy.

According to the Charleston Police Department, a lean man in flip flops robbed the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 325 Folly Road around 6 p.m. Saturday.

Charleston police released three different surveillance pictures Saturday night which reveal he may have been faking his injury.

One of the photos shows the man, with his head down, entering the Rite Aid. In that picture, his right arm is in the sling. However, photos taken from a camera in the pharmacy part of the store show the man with his left arm in a sling.

In one of the photos, it appears he is even holding items in his left hand.

Charleston police described the suspect as a white man under 6 feet tall in his twenties. He was wearing a royal blue T-shirt, black shorts, brown flip flops, a black military-style hat and sunglasses. It was also noted that he has dark hair.

In a release, police noted that he wore both arms in a sling, “making the injury appear fake."

Police did not note what was taken in the robbery.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
