US will host 2017 BMW world championships

Posted: Updated:

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - USA Cycling says the 2017 BMX world championships will be held in the United States.

The event will be hosted by the still-under-construction BMX Supercross track in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The track is expected to open later this year. Three-thousand amateur and 300 pro racers are expected to compete from July 26-30, 2017.

The United States last hosted the event in 2001. Since then, BMX has been added to the Olympics, making its debut in 2008.
