NCPD: Meth materials found at hotel

Posted: Updated:
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A bag left inside a North Charleston hotel room was not your everyday piece of luggage.

Police say officers responded to the Residence Inn on Northside Drive Tuesday night after two women tried to leave without paying.

According to the incident report, the hotel manager said a white woman and a black woman both left the Sleep Inn. The white woman got away but the black woman ran to the Residence Inn next door and entered a room that was being cleaned. Police said she locked the staff out of the room.

When officers knocked, she opened the door and was detained for trespassing. She gave officers a fake name but was later identified as 34-year-old Jaketta Yalonia Simmons. She has also been charged with giving false information to police.

Afterwards, officers located a portable meth lab inside a bag that was brought to the front desk of the Residence Inn. Staff told police Simmons had left the bag there.

According to the report, the bag contained several chemicals and a clear plastic bottle that had batteries and a clear bubbling liquid. A Drug Enforcement Agency clean-up crew confiscated the bottle and the person staying in the room was checked out by EMS.
