COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The two Democratic candidates in a runoff for their party's nomination to lead South Carolina's schools are meeting in a debate.

Expect plenty of discussion about whether to legalize marijuana in South Carolina and using the taxes to get more money for education. Former South Carolina Education Association president Sheila Gallagher supports the idea, while South Carolina State University dean of graduate studies Tom Thompson does not.

Gallagher received 36 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary for State Superintendent of Education, while Thompson got 26 percent.

The winner of Tuesday's runoff will face the winner of the Republican race between Sally Atwater and Molly Spearman.

South Carolina Educational Television will tape the 30-minute debate at 2 p.m. and air it at 7 p.m. Thursday.
