Bond denied for man accused of killing estranged wife

MONCKSCORNERR, S.C. (WCIV) -- Bond was denied Thursday night for a Goose Creek man accused of killing his estranged wife, wounding her nieces, and trying to evade capture by running to Baltimore.

Darryl Flowers is accused of fatally shooting his estranged wife Tammy Flowers and injuring her two nieces.

The victims' family was not in court, but the victim's best friend and coworker was. It was the first time Deborah McCoy has seen Darryl Flowers since the June 4 incident.

It's a day she says she will never forget.

Holding back tears, McCoy remembers the day she lost her best friend Tammy Flowers to what she called an abusive relationship.

"That day I was indisbelieff because I had asked her to go and get a restraining order. That way he could have had a chance to get some help," McCoy said.

But McCoy says her friend never did that and she believes it cost Tammy Flowers her life.

Her alleged killer on Thursday night went before a bond court judge faced a bond court judge after being extradited back to the Lowcountry. The charges included murder and attempted murder.

"Today was the first step for him to stay where he needs to be at theBerkeleyy County jail," said McCoy.

After the hearing Darryl Flowers' aunt shared a brief moment with McCoy as McCoy vowed to fight for her friend with the hope that some greater good will come from a life taken too soon.

"God always gives us a way of escape. Sometime we have to take that road because it wont always turn up bright in the end. It could end like Tammy's did. If you get in a situation like this, I plead to you tonight; talk to god ask for strength, get up and walk away," she said.

Darryl Flowers is scheduled to be back in court August 8 to hear the evidence against him. If prosecutors move forward with the murder charge, he could face the death penalty.
