SULLIVAN'S ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- Chances are you've seen the signs for the annual Sullivan's Island Fire and Rescue Fish Fry, but do you know how long it's been around?

Fire Chief Anthony Stith gave us a little history lesson.

"The Volunteer Fire Department was started in 1948," said Chief Stith. "One of the members family needed a serious operation in 1949 and that is where the Fish Fry started. Over $10,000 was raised for the family."

The annual Fish Fry has been going strong ever since.  Only now the Chief says the money raised goes toward the rescue side of the operation.

"We have been able to purchase all our rescue boats, jet skies, pickups and rescue tools," said Chief Stith.

This years 65th annual Sullivan's Island Fire and Rescue Fish Fry will be Sunday, June 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. under the big tin.

Admission is free, and for $5 a plate you can enjoy whiting filet, hush puppies and cole slaw.

There will also be live entertainment, T-shirt sales and jump castles for the kids. Organizers are asking everyone to come out and keep the tradition going.
