SCHP investigating officer involved wreck

 JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- The S.C. Highway Patrol has been called in to investigate a crash involving a Charleston Police officer on Johns Island.

Main Road was blocked at Mary Ann Point Road and Chisolm Road due to the early morning single vehicle wreck.

Dispatchers say EMS was called to the scene early Thursday morning. Officials have not detailed the extent of the injuries to the officer.

According to SCHP officials, the accident happened around 3:45 a.m. and involved a 2008 Crown Victoria heading east. Troopers said the driver crossed the center line, overcorrected and went off the right side of the road, hitting a tree.

The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt,  was taken to MUSC. There are no charges at this time.
