IOP Connector reopened after fatal accident

 MT. PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Mount Pleasant Police are investigating a fatal collision that happened on the IOP Connector Thursday morning.

According to officials, the accident happened on the IOP Connector at Rifle Range Road involving a vehicle that struck a road grader. The construction vehicle has a long blade that evens out asphalt during the grading process. It was not being used at the time of the accident but police said someone was in the cab..

Officers said the driver of the car hit the grader head on and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road heading into Isle of Palms is closed was investigators reconstruct the accident. A Mt. Pleasant PD spokesperson said the road would most likely be closed until around noon but they were able to get traffic flowing a half hour earlier.

The coroner has identified the victim as 24-year-old Bret Cooper of Isle of Palms. He died from blunt force trauma.
