CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A Charleston solicitor says the man accused of throwing a punch on King Street that ultimately led to another man's death confessed to it in police custody.

This is the second time in two weeks Dalton Clarke has asked for a bond reduction. On Friday, his attorney asked for his bond to be lowered from $150,000 to $25,000.

“Your honor, this was a street fight, downtown Charleston, two o'clock in the morning,” said defense attorney Michael Dupree.

Clarke is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of 27-year-old Clinton Seymour.

Last April, Seymour was hanging out with friends outside a King Street bar when an argument broke out with another group outside the bar. According to the solicitor, Clarke confessed to throwing the fatal sucker punch.

“Mr. Clarke was called over there, he by his own admission later, ran sprinted up and punched the first guy he saw. Sadly it was Clinton Seymour,” said the assistant solicitor.

Clinton Seymour's father Don gave a brief statement to the judge.

“He was attacked, ambushed and died. He was not involved in any fight. I'm not sure the others were involved in any fight,” said Seymour.

The judge denied the motion to lower Clarke's bond.

“He was a person walking along the street minding his own business, not saying anything, not doing anything to provoke anyone. Perfectly sober as we now know and his life ends within an instant,” said Seymour.

Don Seymour says he's been in and out of courtrooms in the short period of time, since his son's death. He says no matter how hard it gets he will continue to fight for justice for his son.

“I need to continue to do this, because my son can’t do it. But no, it's not any easier. It won't be any easier but I'll keep doing it. I'll be here every time I need to be here,” said Seymour.
