Police chase leads to drug arrest for Bluffton man

BLUFFTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A traffic stop and police chase through downtown Bluffton on Thursday led to one man's arrest and drug charges being filed.

According to police, officers saw a grey Chevrolet Malibu violate a traffic law near Dubois Lane and May River Road. As officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop of the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Sherrod Green fled from officers and failed to stop for blue lights.

At May River Road and Buck Island Road, police say Green struck a vehicle and continued to flee.

Green stopped the vehicle in front of 150 Buck Island Road and jumped out leaving the vehicle in reverse. His struck and damaged a marked Bluffton police cruiser.

On Thursday, June 26, 2014, at approximately 7:24 PM, officers conducting pro-active patrols in the downtown area of Bluffton observed a grey Chevrolet Malibu commit a traffic violation in the area of Dubois Lane and May River Road. As officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop of the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Sherrod Green fled from officers and failed to stop for blue lights.

Officers initiated a pursuit of the vehicle which continued on May River Road. At May River Road and Buck Island Road, the suspect, Green struck a vehicle and continued to flee.

Green stopped the vehicle in front of 150 Buck Island Road and jumped out leaving the vehicle in reverse. His struck and damaged a marked Bluffton police cruiser.

Green fled on foot in an attempt to escape but was apprehended in the area of 186 Buck Island Road and was taken into custody. A search of Green yielded approximately 47 grams of marijuana and 2 grams of MDMA.

Green is being held in the Beaufort County Detention Center.
