CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- With Tropical Storm Arthur on his way and cruise ships leaving the Charleston harbor this week, travelers should still take their trips, experts said.

“We’re going to get on the ship, do the wedding ceremony and our reception and then those of us who aren’t cruising are getting off the boat, and everyone else is preparing to depart," said Terrence Randall, best man in a wedding aboard Charleston's Carnival cruise ship Wednesday.

But could Arthur rain on their parade?

“They’re still going! Especially since they put their little pennies together. They’re going," Randall said.

AAA recommended all travelers stick with their plans.

“I would definitely go and not cancel,” AAA travel sales specialist Mary Smith said. “Take a good raincoat and umbrella. Be prepared the cruise might be re-routed. Plan to be on the inside of the ship.”

It might not be the vacation people imagined, but the cruise company will take care of visitors, AAA's Smith said.

“They’ll have things to do in the large auditorium. Cruise ships are great making sure their passengers have things to do,” she said.

But for another family that just disembarked, the high seas didn't satisfy as the storm approached.

“Yesterday was a little bit rocky but not too bad,” Jennifer Harrill said.

"I’d be skittish. I’d be apprehensive about that," her husband Shannon Harrill said.

AAA officials also recommended getting trip insurance in case you have a medical emergency or the cruise does by chance get canceled. Insurance costs start at $100 and increase depending on the cost of the vacation.

A Carnival representative said no cruise schedules had been changed as of Wednesday afternoon, but the company is monitoring the storm's path.
