Brick thrown at Gadsden woman's face; three arrested for attempted murder

GADSDEN, Ala. - Gadsden police arrested three men investigators say are responsible for hitting a woman in the face with a brick.

Officers took 38-year-old James Barrett White and 33-year-olds Michael Allen Hammett and Jamie Lee Ray into custody Wednesday.  The three men are each charged with attempted murder.

The attack happened Sunday afternoon.  Investigators said the victim was with others in a vehicle on Eisenhower Street in Gadsden.  They went to visit a family member who lives on the street, but the relative was not home, so they turned around.

Gadsden police captain Paul Cody said as the group passed 1820 Eisenhower Street, the three suspects forced the vehicle to stop.

"The victim and passengers of the vehicle were uninvolved parties to a prior dispute and did not know the suspects," Cody said.

Investigators said one of the men threw a brick through the opened back window and hit the woman in the face.  She remained in the hospital Thursday afternoon.
