Police: Man found shot to death in car that crashed into Hanahan home

Posted: Updated:

HANAHAN, S.C. (WCIV) -- A car crashed into a home early Friday morning in Hanahan, but police say the victim inside the car died from gunshot wounds.

According to a spokesman for the Hanahan Police Department, officers went to an East Recess Road home where a car had crashed into a garage.

According to the coroner's office, the man in the car was identified as 19-year-old Terrence Kendall McNeil, of North Charleston. His death was ruled a homicide.

He had been shot in the head multiple times, officials said.

“We heard four loud bangs, and they sounded like gunshots,” said Emma Jensen, who lives near the scene of the crash.

“We looked outside and we didn’t see anything, so we just went back to what we were doing but it was scary,” said Logan Murphy, who was in her room talking to Jensen when it happened.

Neighbors say their neighborhood is a quiet area, and couldn’t believe something like this happened in their community.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw the damage,” said Patrick King, who lives a few houses away from the crash. “He must’ve been going pretty fast because, you know, he made a big damage in the for sure.”

Michael Fowler with the Hanahan Police Department says this is the first homicide in the city since July 2012.

Officials said the garage sustained significant damage in the crash.
