Authorities in east Alabama still searching for serial rapist who attacks in July

Posted: Updated:
CALHOUN COUNTY, Alabama -- The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office is urging the public to be aware of their surroundings this month as they continue to try to find a serial rapist who apparently strikes in the month of July and targets elderly women.

The suspect, a black male who is not taller than 5-feet-8 and weighs around 200 pounds, followed an 82-year-old Calhoun County woman to her home on July 15, 2012 and proceeded to sexually assault her in her yard. The man stole a few personal items from the victim's home before leaving the scene in a white car.

The second attack occurred July 28, 2013 when the suspect pretended to be a door-to-door book salesman before raping a 62-year-old woman at her home in Talladega County. Before fleeing the scene, he stole an undisclosed amount of money from the victim.

Authorities believe the victims were targeted ahead of the attacks.

"The Sheriff’s Office wants to bring attention to these cases in hopes that someone will recognize the person in the composites so justice can be served," Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson said in a release. "In addition, we want the public to be reminded to stay vigilant of their surroundings as both victims were followed from public places to their residences in the same month a year apart."

Both cases are considered as open investigations. Anyone with information regarding the incidents is asked to please contact the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office at 256-236-6600 or the Talladega County Sheriff's Office at 256-761-2141 or Crime Stoppers at 256-238-1414.
