Sellers has $194K for lieutenant governor's bid

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Democratic Rep. Bakari Sellers has nearly three times more cash available than his Republican foe, former Attorney General Henry McMaster, in their bid for lieutenant governor.

Second-quarter campaign filings show McMaster had $69,600 in the bank July 1, following a four-way GOP primary and run-off election that drained his account. The 67-year-old former state Republican Party chairman spent nearly $490,000 in winning the nomination.

Sellers had no primary opponent.

As of July 1, Sellars had $194,200 in his campaign account. The 29-year-old, four-term legislator had raised a total of $330,000 toward the election, which includes $117,000 raised over the past quarter.

McMaster led last month's primary with 44 percent of the vote, but that wasn't enough for an outright win. He defeated Mike Campbell in the runoff with 64 percent.
