Lemonade stand raises $1300 for James Island boy with Neurofibromatosis

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- Four James Island girls raised more than $1,300 for a neighbor battling Neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that often means patients develop many tumors.

The success of Sunday's lemonade stand led the family to decide to carry it over to the following weekend. The Sisk family will gather outside with their lemonade stand on July 19 at 3:30 p.m. for more cold drinks and delicious treats.

The Sisk girls spent their Sunday afternoon selling lemonade and holding a raffle for the Conor McManus fund.

According to Wynne Sisk, her daughters' Caring for Conor lemonade stand and raffle was held in the Parrott Bluff neighborhood on James Island. The sale and raffle started at 3:30 p.m.

Cups of fresh lemonade were $0.50 and raffle tickets were $1 for kids and $5 for adults.

According to the girls' mother, the girls came up with the idea to help raise money for the Conor McManus fund, a program to help raise money for medical expenses for the McManus family as they pay for MRIs, surgeries, and chemotherapy.

"The girls asked me what they wanted to do this week and they say they wanted to have a lemonade stand," Sisk said. "And they said they wanted to give all the money to Conor. We want the girls to understand that at any age they can make a difference they just really have to want to you know what to know they can do it, too."

Raffle prizes included a one-hour massage and a $50 gift certificate from Stox and Co., a $25 gift certificate to Boxcar betty's, a $20 gift card to Wonder Works, tickets to RiverDogs games and dinner, IMAX movie tickets, AVEDA products, a Swurfer swing, and toys.

The Conor McManus fund is trying to raise $10,000 for his medical costs. So far it has pulled in more than $7,500. For more information, click here.
