CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- One person was wounded in an early morning stabbing in downtown Charleston.

Charleston police say the stabbing happened around 6:15 a.m. Monday near the intersection of King and Huger streets. Officials said the victim and suspect knew each other, and that the incident stemmed from an argument.

Police are looking for 23-year-old Esaup Steffon Wood on charges of attempted murder. Police say Wood was the assailant in the incident that started with an argument over stolen sneakers and ended with the victim being stabbed multiple times. He was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon, police said.

One person was taken to Medical University Hospital by EMS, according to police.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
