CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – Charleston Fashion Week organizers report this year's event made a huge impact on the local economy.

Fashion Week officials announced Tuesday more people attended the 2014 event than ever before. They said those record-breaking numbers, along with sponsor participation and international media attention, resulted in a boost to the local economy to the tune of $3 million.

That number was determined by a survey conducted by the Office of Tourism Analysis at The College of Charleston and is up from last year's total of $2.6 million.

“We are thrilled with the continued success of Charleston Fashion Week and the recent survey results reinforce the economic impact of the event," said Jed Drew, the president of Gulfstream Communications. "We’re thankful to the community, our employees, participating retailers, vendors, sponsors, and volunteers for their support.”

Gulfstream Comm. owns and produces CFW.

CFW is held in Marion Square every Spring and features runway shows, interactive entertainment, after parties, and press events.

Organizers said their eighth annual event wasn't just a huge money maker for the area, but reached a wide audience through TV, print, radio and online.

They're already planning for next year and announced the 2015 event will take place March 17 through 21.
