No official winners yet in runoffs for Jefferson County Commission District 1 and 2

Posted: Updated:
It's not official yet, but it appears both incumbents won the run-off for Jefferson County District 1 and 2 seats.

Commissioner George Bowman beat Earl Hilliard Jr. for District One.

District 2 was a very close race.

Sandra Little Brown will most likely remain in the District 2 seat after getting more votes than Sheila Smoot.

In District one, Bowman received 3,859 votes.

Hilliard, a former state lawmaker, received 2,681 votes.

Bowman will not face any republican competition in November.

His focus is restoring Cooper Green Hospital, reducing sewer rates and leveling the playing field for all Jefferson County businesses.

In District 2, incumbent Sandra Little Brown received 3,959 votes, beating challenger and former commissioner, Sheila Smoot, by 31 votes.

Brown had picked-up an endorsement last week from congresswoman Terri Sewell. She's running on a platform of inclusion, honesty, integrity and economic development.

If Brown is declared the official winner, she'll face a libertarian candidate in November.
