CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – Fitness retailer Bollinger Fitness is recalling 60,000 resistance bands because a plastic ball attached to the anchor can unexpectedly release and injure the user.

According to a release from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall is the result of reports that one consumer was injured.

The recall involves Bollinger Fitness Classic and SoftTouch resistance bands with door attachment.

The following models included in the recall are: 5771, 5772, 5773, 5774, 5775. Model numbers can be found on the product’s packaging.

The four-foot long resistance bands are made of gray rubber with grey, red, black or blue accents. They have black foam handles with the Bollinger Fitness logo and a door attachment.

A five-inch long strap of nylon webbing is looped onto the band with a plastic ball attached that serves as a door anchor.

The bands were sold from July 2012 through March 2014 for between $9 and $14 at Fred Meyers, Marshalls, Modell's Sporting Goods, T.J. Maxx and other retailers nationwide as well as online.

USCPSC officials say consumers should stop using the bands and contact Bollinger Fitness for information on how to get a free replacement including free shipping.

If you have one of these bands, you can call Bollinger at (800) 255-6061 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email SGuess@alliancesportsgroup.net, or go online to www.bollingerfitness.com.
