Iva police chief arrested for domestic violence

Posted: Updated:

IVA, S.C. (AP) - The police chief of an Anderson County town has been arrested on criminal domestic violence charges and suspended from duty.

The Anderson County Sheriff's Office says Iva Police Chief Tommy Miller was charged Saturday with criminal domestic violence and third-degree assault.

Arrest warrants accuse the 39-year-old police chief of repeatedly striking his 14-year-old son with a piece of wood and attempting to harm his wife by grabbing and throwing her. The incident report says deputies reviewed video footage and spoke with Miller's wife and son before arresting Miller.

Miller was taken to the Anderson County jail and released on personal recognizance bonds.

Town officials have suspended Miller while they look into the charges.

Iva has about 1,200 residents.

Voicemail messages left on Miller's home phone were not immediately returned.
