Coroner: Driver killed in Berkeley County crash

Posted: Updated:
ST. STEPHEN, S.C. (WCIV) -- Officials confirm one man has died as a result of a car accident in Berkeley County.

According to the Berkeley County coroner, 48-year-old Kevin Lee Malay was driving south on Hoodtown Road when his pick-up truck went off the right side of the road, crossed over to the left side of the road, and struck several trees.

Officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said Malay overcorrected, causing his 1997 Chevy truck to leave the roadway.

The coroner said Malay was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and was thrown from the truck.

He was pronounced dead on the scene by Coroner Bill Salisbury who also said no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Malay's death has been ruled accidental.
