PetSmart recalls 33,000 aquarium heaters for shock hazard

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of Top Fin Aquarium Heaters Friday.

According to the release, the heaters aren't properly grounded and could shock whoever uses it. No injuries or incidents have been reported.

This recall involves all 50-, 100-, 150-, 200- and 250-watt Top Fin brand plastic aquarium heaters.

Recalled heaters have model numbers HT50, HT100, HT150, HT200 or HT250.

Lot numbers for the recalled heaters are 1839, 1901, 1903, 1904, 1907, 1908 and 1910.

The heaters are black cylinders about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and about 13 inches tall. "Top Fin," "Premium Aquarium Heater," the model number and the heater's wattage are printed on the side of the heater near the top. Below that, the lot number is printed beneath the words "Made in China."

If you bought one of these heaters, sold at PetSmart stores across the country, you can return it for a full refund. They were sold from March 2014 to April 2014 for between $27 and $37.
