MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) - For almost 40 years, the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum on Charleston Harbor displayed the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown and its other vessels and exhibits the way most museums did - static displays with plaques explaining what visitors were seeing.

But now, with new interactive technology, visitors can experience what it was like to fly around the moon in Apollo 8 or fend off kamikaze attacks from a World War II era destroyer. It's part of a plan to use technology to make the exhibits at the state museum come alive.

This fall, the museum's renovated Vietnam River Support Base reopens and visitors will be able to experience a nighttime firefight and see what it was like to call in fire on enemy positions.
