CA man arrested for coming to SC for sex with minor

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) – A California man was arrested after Lexington County deputies say he traveled from his home state to South Carolina to have sex with a minor.

The Attorney General's Office announced Monday that Charleston Henry Ross, of San Diego, was charged with one count of criminal solicitation of a minor, and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

His bond was set at $275,000 and he was ordered to stay in the state.

Investigators say Ross began talking online several months ago with a minor in Lexington County. On Aug. 6, he traveled to South Carolina to engage in several sexual activities with the minor, officials said.

The victim's mother found Ross in her son's bedroom on Aug. 8 and he ran, according to the Attorney General's office. He was later captured by deputies.

“This arrest is a reminder that predators are real. Everyday our Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force works to protect South Carolina's children from those who wish them harm. Predators no longer lurk on playgrounds, but now cruise the Internet looking for victims,” said Attorney General Alan Wilson.

“In criminal cases all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law. It is our duty to vigorously prosecute these cases, and to seek serious punishment for those who are convicted of harming a child.”
